If you’re living with dentures that slip, or you’ve been told most of your remaining teeth can’t be saved, you’ve probably heard of All-on-4. It’s a way to replace a full arch of teeth with a fixed set that’s held in place by just four implants.
It’s a big decision, so we wanted to answer the questions we hear most at Siena Dental. For the full overview, visit our All-on-4 dental implants page.
Who Is All-on-4 Best For?
All-on-4 tends to be a great fit if you:
- Wear a full denture and are tired of adhesives, sore spots, or slipping
- Have many failing, broken, or loose teeth in one jaw
- Have been told you don’t have enough bone for traditional implants
- Want teeth that stay in place and don’t come out at night
Because the back two implants are placed at an angle, All-on-4 can often work even when some bone has been lost, which means many patients can skip bone grafting.
How Is It Different from Dentures?
A traditional denture rests on your gums. It relies on suction and a close fit, and it can move when you eat or talk. An All-on-4 arch is attached to implants in your jaw. Only your dentist can remove it. That means a much stronger bite, no adhesive, and no taking your teeth out at night.
There’s also a long-term difference. Dentures don’t stop the jawbone from shrinking, so they tend to loosen over the years. Implants help keep the bone active.
What Does the Process Look Like?
- Consultation: A 3D CBCT scan shows your bone, nerves, and sinuses so we can plan the exact position and angle of each implant.
- Surgery day: We remove any failing teeth, place the four implants, and attach a temporary set of teeth, often in a single visit.
- Healing: Over a few months, the implants fuse with your jawbone while you wear your temporary teeth.
- Final teeth: We attach your permanent, custom-made arch.
Many patients choose sedation for surgery day. At Siena Dental, we partner with a local anesthesiologist for advanced sedation, so you can rest through the procedure.
What About Cost?
All-on-4 costs more than a denture but usually less than replacing every tooth with its own implant. Your cost depends on whether you’re treating one or both arches and any prep work you need. You’ll get an exact written estimate at your free consultation. See dental implant cost for what affects the price, and ask us about financing through CareCredit, Sunbit, and Compassionate Finance.
How Long Does All-on-4 Last?
With daily brushing, cleaning under the arch with a water flosser, and regular checkups, the implants can last decades. The arch itself may need repair or replacement after many years of wear, just like any restoration.
